The CDC reported that 30% of trans students reported feeling unsafe going to or in school ans 24% of transgender students were threatened or injured by a weapon while at school compared to 4-6% of non-transgender students.

In 2021, a national survey found that 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-18 attempted suicide in the past year.

This high suicide rate among LGBTQ+ youth is largely attributed to the effects of "minority stress."

Background

In 2020 a Virginia bill was signed into law that requires school districts to provide a number of protections to transgender students. SB20 removes those protections.
