Dear Senator,
I am asking you to support SB 1248 MEI Project Approval Commission; board level gender and diversity requirements.

Thirteen States from both Democratic and Republican State Houses have either proposed or legislated that corporate boards be Gender-Balanced and Diverse. Similarly, the NASDAQ has a requirement that Corporate Boards must be diverse (Rules 5606 & 5605f) or they will not list a company on their stock exchange.

The Rationale is that Corporate Boards should be a reflection of their Investors, Customers (and employees) all of whom are diverse. Reviewing the boards of the top US corporations as well as a review of the boards of the top Virginia Corporations, all have diverse boards. No one would argue with the success that these companies have achieved.

Board diversity is not a social issue. It is a governance issue for sustainable and successful corporate growth.

I believe what is good for the nation's top tier companies is also good for Virginia.
