District 42

Kathy Tran

Fairfax County

Kathy Tran and her parents fled Vietnam as boat refugees when she was just seven months old. Although many other countries offered them asylum, they waited 13 months for the United States to accept their application. For Kathy’s family, this country has always represented hope, opportunity and freedom. Now, she's running for the House of Delegates because she couldn’t just stand by while Donald Trump and Virginia Republicans dismantle the ideals that brought her family here.

Kathy has spent her career helping working families achieve the American Dream. During her 12 years at the U.S. Department of Labor, Kathy worked to shape national policies that help real people get ahead. She went on to work at the National Immigration Forum, helping workers acquire the skills they need to succeed. Kathy is committed to improving our schools, fixing our traffic crisis by working to create more jobs closer to home and expand Metro and VRE to take more cars off the road, and working to expand Virginians' access to affordable health care.

House District 42

Secretary Clinton won this district with 57 percent of the vote. The 42nd encompasses parts of Fairfax County, and is currently represented by David Albo (R). However, Del. Albo is retiring, so the Republican opponent this fall will be Lolita Mancheno-Smoak (R).
