OPPOSE SB657 and SB81, Bills that Undercut Good Government

Dear Senator,
Please oppose SB657 and SB81, which would eviscerate the air and water citizen boards, thwarting public participation and eliminating transparency in environmental permitting.
These bills would either remove the Boards' authority to consider health, safety, or the suitability of an activity to an area when issuing a permit or worse, in the case of SB657, transfer permitting authority to DEQ and exclude citizen involvement.
Citizens must be involved in critical decisions that affect their health, economic and community well-being - these decisions must not be made behind the closed doors of DEQ. It is vital that permit enforcement remains with citizen boards, along with full authority to take into account critical health and safety factors. These boards are simply more attuned to community needs.
It's time to support good government, not undermine it.
Sincerely,
