This Subcommittee has been extended from last year, but needs updated membership (including four citizen members, one to be appointed by the Governor). It has the responsibility to review the effectiveness of the Commonwealth's present disclosure laws and their enforcement, options to regulate campaign finances including contribution limits, and the desirability of specific revisions in the Commonwealth's laws.
The timely convening of this committee will demonstrate the Subcommittee's serious intent of reform.
Virginia has very lax campaign finance laws. The Virginia General Assembly has largely ignored the problems for almost 3 decades, since Governor Wilder released his 1994 Campaign Finance Reform, Government Accountability, and Ethics Study.
Virginians from around the state want our campaign finance system to ensure greater integrity and thereby promote public confidence in government.
Sincerely,
