Dear Legislator,
A major way to support students in public schools is to improve the staff to student ratios by lifting the Support Cap, which limits state funding for school support positions.
Between 2009 and 2020, support staff in Virginia schools declined by 1,660 positions while student enrollment increased by more than 62,000 students. The Virginia Board of Education has repeatedly recommended lifting this arbitrary and damaging cap. Also, there are pressing infrastructure needs to meet the delayed maintenance and overcrowding problems our kids face.
The Senate's proposed budget includes big investments in our children's health, safety, and academic growth while the House's budget proposal benefits primarily big corporations.
Please put Kids Over Corporations in the final budget!
Sincerely
